1/ Project Charter 2.0

Project Description:
Re-design HPL’s content (Module 1 and 2) for parents through Canvas. Our project aims to provide learning opportunities for parents who are interested in learning about how their children learn and develop through researched based content and designs. This project will ensure that parents get a sense of how they can support their children’s learning and gain more confidence in their parenting skills.

Project Scope:

︎ In Scope

  • Creating new media for existing HPL content
  • Generate audio podcasts and compare with different version and pick the most effective tool
  • Create new reference images/visuals to update text heavy chart that currently exists
  • Modification/redesign of existing HPL content
  • Editing to find content most relevant to parents in child development
  • Mainly utilize and reference materials from Module 1&2 of HPL (developmental pathway, motivation...)
  • Focus on 1.2.3 as our main redesign module

︎ Out of Scope

  • Exploring new platforms for curriculum access (other than Canvas)
  • Creating new learning content about child development
  • In person community activities
  • Facilitation, how assessments will be graded/given feedback
  • Creating fully updated content for large sections of HPL

︎Success Criteria:

The HPL canvas sandbox will display our re-design content, with accessibility and diversity.

Risk
  • Limited access and knowledge of technology (ex. Canvas)
  • Condensing content might lead to important details being left out
Mitigation Plan
  • Reach out to stakeholders & teaching teams/IT for support
  • Asking for support/feedback from HGSE community

2/ Capstone Update

Based on our audience research and analysis, most parents—whether working professionals or single caregivers—face significant time constraints in spending quality moments with their children. With demanding workloads and busy schedules, they often lack the capacity to learn about parenting, even though they have a strong desire to do so. In response, we identified accessibility and mobility as our key design priorities.

Since the platform is tailored for parents, we aim to make the learning materials concise, lightweight, and easy to understand. Furthermore, we are exploring ways to embed assessments into interactive activities that parents can complete alongside their children, transforming learning about parenting theories into opportunities for meaningful family connection.

We decided to embed podcasts and scenario-based videos as the key features on the Canvas pages. Chunked readings will serve as supplementary learning materials. Instead of traditional, theory-heavy instructional videos, we opted for a Crash Course–style format that demonstrates real-life parenting situations linked to relevant learning theories, helping parents better understand and apply them. My role is to create the demo video script and corresponding screenshots that illustrate the video content.
